Metaphor

or meta-for
maybe meta 4
it seems to be doomed
any way you fractionate
to be taken
consumed for literal,
as misunderstood
as a teenage death poem,
punctuated with
arcane punct
or maybe just Punk'd

Energy levels
a metaphor
for meta understanding
of metataxis
or just more woo
... a book review.

Distance

I see her
every day
out of reach
not just fingertips
interstellar distances
made of miles
and years
and age
and I can never
not reach for her
even though
the best I can manage
is throw her a lifeline
keep her afloat
never to touch her
never to scent her
close and far
and always in my heart

Enough

Enough, tortured soul
Enough torment,
Enough striving,
Enough pushing,
Enough crying.

Enough trying to swallow the world,
trying to taste every experience there is,
Enough trying to make us laugh,
to please and delight every soul.

Enough frantic activity
never letting yourself rest,
Enough secret weeping
shredding your soul for love

Enough alcohol
Enough drugs
Enough sex
Enough heart attacks

Take your quiet bed
in the eternal silence
Rest at last,
as you havent for sixty years,
Enjoy finally,
the strange alien balm
of no longer being.

You've done enough. You deserve it

Our tears and regrets are nothing,
clamouring proof,
you've done enough.

The best defence

... for Kim

your photos show me
Nodachi, wakizashi,
falchions,
rapiers to rend the eye
beauty to carve up the mind
and let libido fall like fat medallions

and your words give
smashed steel,
fractured plate,
imperfect armour
wounds welling tears
a clean pure heart uncased

Sliding

How many tears
trembling unshed
your pillow yet holds

How many moments
in the trough
digging deeper

How many ways
silent as stone
unknown and alone

The sun will warm
your skin again
your blood will fire,
your boy will smile

It looks far as fear
unreachable
but not for long.

Supermen (1)

Stanley paused and fingered the ancient, crumbling concrete thoughtfully. The faint aroma of burnt bone wafted up from far below, and he peered over the decrepit parapet, staring five hundred feet down at the broken road bed.

He nodded and clambered precariously up on the wall, and teetered for a moment. A gull screamed overhead, he peered up at it, smiled, thought - why not -  and extended his arms, flapping, then leapt into the void. Pivoting in the air, he aimed his head down at the road, watching it suddenly leaping into close focus with a small smile.

Wen Xo watched as the body plunged down, hitting the fractured asphalt with a fluid smack, the head shattering like any canteloupe and spraying its contents around. He picked his way across the ancient lanes to the body, watching his footing carefully in the jagged fragments of road, and toed the body speculatively.

'Stanley, Stanley, you'll never learn, I swear, You must be the stubbornest man alive'.

The mashed face he stared at took on a faint air of annoyed disappointment, then one eye opened and glared up at Xo. 'Bloody, bloody machines. Still failed'
